A new set of pads can total out the printer (or it requires a lower base), or time you can spend removing the pads but either way, you often need to do a full disassembly on the Canon models with integrated pads. The issue with repair is parts cost, or time.
This warning (more cryptic variant) is the semi common error - other Canon models will tell you outright.
